The Wilson Benesch A.C.T. Loudspeaker is the key stone, 2.5-way floor standing speaker from the Odyssey range. It is one of the most rigid speakers in it's class having a whelded steel bracing and alloy superstructure wrapped by a carbon fiber monocoque. The stifness is enhanced by a full length rear spine and the curved monocoque (which set the trend for curved cabinets by a host of manufactures), slanted top and double plate plinth all contribute to a very inert low noise cabinet.

After it's launch, the Wilson Benesch A.C.T. Loudspeaker was quickly adopted as a reference speaker favored by several reviewers. The advanced carbon fiber A.C.T. monocoque cabinet walls do not store energy unlike M.D.F. traditionally-built cabinets which add coloration and smear to sound because of delayed released energy. The A.C.T. has more of an electrostatic clarity to it than most other box speakers.

The Wilson Benesch A.C.T. Loudspeaker is a true linear phase design and this is another reason for it's remarkable clarity and insight. Wilson Benesch was one of the first manufactures to abandon complex cross-overs that introduce voltage/current phase anolamlies with resulting distortion of the orginal audio signal. Both the "Tactic Bass-Midrange" and the "Tactic Bass" drivers are directly connected to the amplifier with integration and roll off controlled by engineering the diaphragm and voice coil masses in conjunction with two separately ported chambers within the cabinet and a single inductor for each driver. The tweeter cross-over is at 5KHz, above the most critical mid-band frequencies, and is a minimal component second order type. Simple cross-overs can only be used when all other engineering aspects have been fully worked through and it's taken half a decade for other well-known speaker companies to catch-up.

The quality of the materials and components that make up the Wilson Benesch A.C.T. Loudspeaker, are individually and in combination optimized for elimination of reasonance giving low noise, high signal to ratio cabinets. Lab measurements are excellent - smooth frequency envelope (35Hz to 24kHz +- 2dB on axis), with high power handling and sound levels (200 watts peak unclipped programme, 109dB at 1 metre maximum spl).
Wilson Benesch A.C.T. Loudspeakers sound clean, well articulated with great cohesion allowing the speakers to disappear. The ACTs comunicate with great dynamics and have outstanding height, width, and depth imaging, musical material is fully, and captivatingly presented.

With no less than 2 standard (regal silver and black satin) and 10 optional upgrade finish options (see below) there should be no difficulty in selecting a quality finish to compliment all environments. Wilson Benesch A.C.T. Loudspeakers are hand-made to order with a delivery time of approximately 8 weeks.

U.S Retail Price: $17,250 (standard finishes)

Wilson Benesch is located in Sheffield England - the traditional home of steel engineering in the UK - and is the only U.K. audio company to have won substantial government funding for its innovative development work.
